Print History: Between 1978 and 1982, Michael Knigin created a series of 50 paintings and prints inspired by the works of Japanese woodblock artists. His photographs of New York City landmarks - skyline, subways, street corners, and urban scenes (in contrast to the colorful Japanese works) were printed directly onto special photographic linen, a technique he pioneered; he then hand-painted his interpretations of Japanese images to the foreground in acrylic and enamel paint. The Japan Society featured his work on the cover of their annual for three years.
