Mint, unused, never framed nor hung. Zodiac is a limited edition, hand pulled, fine art lithograph of Alphonse Mucha's, decorative design.Zodiac was originally designed as the in-house calendar for printer and publisher, Champenois. It was Mucha's first work under contract with the printing house. The design caught the attention of the chief editor of La Plume, Leon Deschamps, and he bought the rights to distribute it as the magazine's calendar for 1897. It quickly became one of Mucha's most popular designs and there are at least nine known variants, including this design, which is an advertising poster for. Carmichael's Luxuria Bath Tablets.
This hand pulled lithograph preserves Mucha's classic work art. It is pulled on Rives BFK archival, acid free 100% cotton paper one colour at a time, from separate plates, in perfect registration for a limited edition of 300 pieces. The edition is numbered 1/300 to 300/300.There is also a museum edition of 35 (1/35 to 35/35). The chromist creates this image by hand-drawing directly onto specially prepared surfaces, which are then chemically transferred onto lithographic plates, one plate for each color.
The plates that are used to create this edition have are then destroyed. The lithograph is printed at S2 Atelier in New York City by master printers, under the supervision of Technical Director, Raymond Mazza. This piece is hand-drawn at the Mucha Foundation while viewing the original - so colors are a perfect match.
You almost cannot distinguish it from the original. Great care is taken to precisely recreate Mucha's original image created in 1897. This recreation bears the chop marks of S2 Editions Atelier and the Mucha Foundation. The signature of the chromist is printed unobtrusively on this lithograph in order to distinguish this recreation from Mucha's original work. Zodiac, Carmichal's Luxuria Bath Tablets.
